I have a big fat crush on Daniel Tosh. Not sure why, he just does things to me! Celebrity crushes. I'm sure we've all had one, I've had plenty over the years. Brad Pitt is still up there, as he has been since Thelma and Louise. Maybe it's because I live in a romantic imaginary world that I develop crushes on the most unattainable people, male and female. There's nothing like a good celebrity fantasy to get the juices flowing but how healthy is it really?
I believe it helps to inspire characters in my novels. I have built a new character around a celebrity many a time or have an actor's appearance in mind when creating my male and female leading roles. My novel Rich Girl is a perfect example. Lucas has been Josh Hartnett from the very beginning, with Mila Kunis as Chelsea. When I created this story they are the pictures I have in my head. Not all of my characters are created from stars' images but they do contribute to some.
Us girls create a whole fantasy world around the said celebrity. Imagine the jet setting, the lavish houses and superstar lifestyle. Men on the other hand approach the idea of celebrities like they do every female in their world, would I bang her? She's hot, I'd do her. Whereas we would say, he's a hunk, how do I get him to fall in love with me? I can I get him to sweep me off my feet and be living in the fantasy world? Maybe it's just me but I believe that women even have high expectations on celebrities as well as men in their normal life. I can't speak for all women but I think this is the difference between men and women. Men don't say, she's beautiful I want to build a life with her, they see her as the sexy unattainable fantasy. Their instinct is primal ours is to hold onto a mate. Our ideas about love are definitely different to men. Of course like in every example I give there are exceptions to the rule. There always is, the saying is true.
My celebrity crushes come and go while some stay with me from the beginning. There are some crushes that are purely about sex, about the sexual fantasy but for the most part, my ideals are more about the fantasy. Am I the only girl that feels this way?
