Love at first sight.
Does it exist? I believe that in more ways than one, it has happened to me.
Fell in love on first date
I knew him before, a friend of my friend's boyfriend. It wasn't until we went out on our first date that I believe I fell in love at first sight. It was a fun, passionate first date with a man I went on to fall deeply in love with and not just the love at first sight lust type. In the end our relationship was passionate in many ways, some in the not so good way. I think the roller coaster we were on had a lot to do with the intense feelings we had for each other. It could also have fallen apart as it was the time I believe my bipolar kicked in and I had no clue it was happening. Either way our first date was filled with the ingredients that could be interpreted as love at first sight. Our time together is something I've never forgotten. Maybe it was because it was the first time I was in love.
The definite love at first sight
He was my neighbour. I'd seen him about and he was tall. It wasn't until I was invited (by his girlfriend) to their daughter's birthday party (which he asked her to do) that I saw all of him. Tall and lean, friendly and tall, nice and did I mention tall but it wasn't until he took his sunglasses off and I looked into those hazel eyes that I fell in love at first sight. I became a big bundle of 'oh my'. Did I mention he was tall. ;) Suffice to say, he had a girlfriend so I won't be going into the story anymore. But I definitely fell hard from that first moment I looked into his eyes. To this day he still has an effect on me but I've moved on. It was a great summer but it had to end. I will always remember that feeling when I first looked into his eyes. My world shook, my stomach took a nose dive and I had my breath stolen. If we could bottle that feeling, people would be walking around on a high all the time. I'm glad I got to experience that wonderful feeling at least once even if it couldn't be. Did I mention he was tall? :)
The slow burn love at first sight.
We met through a personal ad. We chatted on the phone to find we had a lot in common and a great rapport. We had one of those conversations that went on for hours and we were already going to see each other the next day, yet, we still chatted way into the night. We had exchanged photos so I knew he was cute. So when I laid eyes on him the first time, something shifted in me. It wasn't the all consuming 'oh my' it was more of a instant comfort. He turned out to be handsome, sweet, polite, intelligent, witty and incredibly nice, that's why he's still in my life now. I may not have fallen head over heels at first sight but it was a slow burning, building love at first sight that stuck. We still have that wonderful rapport and companionship that I've never had in a relationship before. It may not have had the love at first wow factor but it certainly had a at first sight feeling. He turned out to be the man I'd been searching for. Yes, that is cliché but I'm cliché J, you can't expect less.
So do I believe in love at first sight? In a way, yes. Perhaps it is just lust that can grow to love. Perhaps it really is a kind of love that you just can't shake, either way I believe that something happens on first sight when the chemistry is there. Pinpointing the exact feeling isn't clear cut, there are degrees of feeling, lust and love. However you want to clarify it, the experience and the high of the first sight meeting stayed with me.
